A FORMER banker, an ex-businessman and an Army chaplain have been installed in leading roles at Ripon Cathedral.
The Reverend Dan Sladden, who worked in the City of London for ten years before becoming a vicar, and the Reverend John Chambers, who was a board member of an international textile group before being ordained, became canons at the cathedral during the Sunday evensong service.
Rev Sladden said: “Being a banker was all about numbers and money and spreadsheets. This is about people, which is far more rewarding.“
The service also saw former Whitby and Staithes vicar and Army Reserve chaplain Reverend Barry Pyke placed in an ancient stall in the cathedral as he was installed as Area Dean of Ripon and residentiary canon.
