A WALK to celebrate of one Ripon Cathedral's patron saints has been organised by the mother of a former chorister.
Julia Clutterbuck and her friends are walking from York Minster to Ripon Cathedral on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 16, 17 and 18.
The 30-mile walk has been researched over the past four months, and the inspiration came from a service at Ripon Cathedral in April in which Mrs Clutterbuck participated as a member of The Yorkshire Decibelles choir.
The Treasures Untold service was described as a self-guided pilgrimage in Ripon Cathedral, and involved songs, prayers and readings.
Having walked the St Cuthbert's Way in Northumberland last September, Mrs Clutterbuck decided to create a walk in honour of St Wilfred, one of Ripon Cathedral’s Patron Saints and a key figure in the creation of the Christian Church.
She said: “It takes a huge amount of money to keep these incredible cathedrals going so a fundraising page has been set up with an aim to raise £1,000 for Ripon Cathedral at www.everyclick.com/stwilfridswalk.
"The money will go towards Ripon Cathedral Renewed, supporting the Dean’s vision to develop the cathedral for the 21st Century."
