CHILDREN will have the chance to sing with the choristers of Ripon Cathedral as part of a choir open day.

Ripon Cathedral is inviting children aged six to 11 to spend the afternoon on Sunday, May 22, rehearsing and singing with the Cathedral Choir, and there will also be guided tours to see behind the scenes of the cathedral.

While children are singing, parents can enjoy refreshments and view presentations about the cathedral and choir.

The afternoon will conclude with an open Cathedral Choir rehearsal for all to attend, followed by the service of Evensong sung by the children and the choir. The Choir Open Day is from 1pm to 4.30pm, and those wishing to attend and participate need to register in advance.

Director of music of Ripon Cathedral Andrew Bryden said: “This is a great opportunity for girls and boys to have the experience of singing with highly trained musicians in an ancient and beautiful building, to meet the choristers, take part in activities, and most importantly have lots of fun.

"There will also be a free goody bag for all the children who participate.“

The Cathedral Choir has a growing reputation for musical excellence, and regularly appears on radio and television including BBC Breakfast, The One Show and broadcasts live on BBC Radio 3.

The musical training children receive is free and includes singing lessons.
