A FESTIVAL to celebrate a cathedral in the heart of its community will take place during the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Ripon Cathedral Revealed is a festival aimed at showcasing the cathedral and all it offers to the local and wider community.

Contract Natural Gas Limited (CNG) in Harrogate is sponsoring the event which will include a diverse range of miniature festivals of flowers, food, beer, spirituality and music.

The event, from April 28 to May 2, will also involve exhibitions and workshops, and highlights include 23 floral displays designed and created by Ripon Cathedral Flower Guild.

A celebration of food will be one of the main features with a two day food festival taking place in the grounds of the cathedral on Friday and Saturday.

The music festival features a jazz band playing at the preview evening, choral evensong, Songs of Praise service on Sunday and live music at the beer festival on Bank Holiday Monday.

There will be an opportunity to see behind the scenes with guided tours of the bell tower and a chance to play the organ.

There will also be embroidery workshops, drama performances, stonemasons, and talks on spirituality.

The event will be rounded with the ever-popular Cathedral Beer Festival on May Day Bank Holiday Monday.
