DOZENS of barrels of beer brought traffic to a standstill in North Yorkshire today (Tuesday, December 29), when the kegs escaped from a lorry and rolled across the A61.

The rolling road block of beer barrels happened at Daffodil Bends near Ripon, when they escaped from the back of an HGV.

It is believed at least two cars were dented in the incident. The barrels fell from the truck and bounced across the highway, but it is not thought anybody was harmed.

Diversions were put in place, as traffic queues built up to the crossroads at Bishop Monkton just after the accident, at about 12pm.

Officers with North Yorkshire’s Roads Policing Group reopened the road about four hours later, once the beer had been cleared from the carriageway.
