WORK by some of the UK’s finest contemporary painters, printmakers and photographers are due to be unveiled to the public in Ripon Cathedral.

Over the past two days, the team behind an art show has been undertaking the mammoth task of hanging more than 300 works of art in Ripon Cathedral.

The Great North Art Show opens on Saturday, August 29 and runs until September 20 and features art ranging from the intricate wildlife pencil drawings of Nolon Stacey - which took up to 100 hours to complete - to the paintings of Jill Campbell, who is inspired every day by the North Pennines region where she lives.

This year, two artists have been invited to showcase their work as guest artists.

They include the work of sculptor Harold Gosney and London artist Everton Wright, who created a multi-media installation Walking Drawings: Heavy Horses, which involved the use of 15 shire horses and an old-fashioned tractor.
