SOME of the world’s top croquet players are to head to North Yorkshire later this month for an international tournament.

Ripon Croquet Club is this year celebrating 21 years of hosting the Yorkshire International Tournament.

This year’s three day event begins on Tuesday, August 11, and will feature entries from across the UK and overseas, including four Egyptian players ranked in the world’s top 20, together with former world champion Salah Hassan.

The event will again be hosted at Ripon Spa Hotel Croquet Club.

The club’s resident coach and former England International, Samantha Thompson, who is herself competing, said: “The hotel has a proud croquet heritage stretching back over 21 years.

“We’re, therefore, delighted to be once again hosting the Yorkshire Open as part of our busy summer programme of events.

“We are particularly delighted to be welcoming Amir Ramsis Naguib, President of the World Croquet Federation, which is a huge honour.

“The courts are in excellent condition, despite the poor July weather, so everything is set fair for some great competitive croquet. It should be another exciting tournament.”
