THOUSANDS of motoring enthusiasts descended on a North Yorkshire stately home for its annual gathering of four-wheel stars.

More than 5,000 people journeyed to Newby Hall near Ripon where more than 1,600 vehicles of all shapes and sizes took part in the region’s biggest rally of its kind.

The rally was the biggest yet to be staged at the venue and everything from military vehicles and mopeds to MGs, Rolls-Royces and Daimlers was on show.

Newby Hall administrator Stuart Gill said: “Despite a wet start, more than 5,000 people have come through the gates to see this wonderful car rally in the stunning surroundings of Newby Hall.

“It is now firmly on the calendar as the largest vintage car show in the north.”

The rally was organised jointly by Newby Hall and the North of England Classic and Pre-War Automobiles Club.
