A TRADITIONAL agricultural show which has spent its second year at its new home on part of an RAF airbase has now become a limited company to help it become more professional.

The 102nd Aldborough and Boroughbridge Show Ltd took place today (Sunday, July 17) on Dishforth Airfield, and despite initial showers the crowds lined the main ring to see attractions including vintage machinery, a gun dog demonstration, private driving, terrier racing and the grand cattle parade.

President for the second year running, John Knowles, said becoming a limited company this year has meant the committee members have financial security if things go wrong.

He said: “We want to attract more young members to be part of the organisation committee, but many could be put off if they think they will be liable for costs if there are problems.

“But now we are a limited company we have more protection – and it just makes us a more professional outfit.”

A display of vintage tractors and cars brought back memories of times gone by and there were also show classes for art, crafts, baking and produce.

There were several activities for children including a bouncy castle, junior football, athletics, as well as art, craft and produce classes designed especially for local children.

The interbreed cattle champion, winner of the President’s Cup, was Jim and Heather Marks from Bishopton, near Darlington, with their limousin heifer.

Their first time at the Aldborough and Boroughbridge Show, Mrs Marks said they were thrilled to have won.

Steven Kirby, from Northallerton, picked up a handful of rosettes for his texel sheep.

He said: “I’m looking forward to another busy and successful show season – I have another 13 shows to go to.”
