THE search has been launched for youngsters to take part in what is billed as a “celebration of all young musicians.”

Ripon Young Musicians of the Year aims to encourage the musical talent of young people who live, are at school or have private music lessons within 15 miles of the centre of the city.

The 2015 competition takes place on the evening of November 20 and throughout the next day at Holy Trinity Church in Ripon, ending with a concert of winners on the Saturday evening.

There are seven classes that offer an opportunity for players and singers at any level, from beginners to highly-accomplished musicians, to perform to an appreciative audience.

This year’s adjudicator will be Dr George Kennaway, Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Leeds School of Music and formerly co-principal cello of the Orchestra of Opera North.

Leaflets and entry forms are available at Ripon Library, Ripon Leisure Centre, Ripon Cathedral and the Curzon Cinema, and at other outlets in and around the city.
