A GOAT farm is inviting kids and their families to an open day to raise funds for a terminal illness support charity.

The Marie Curie event at Risaw Farm, Ripon will include a guided walk, hosted by farmers Ben and Sam Ryder, around three indoor straw yards, where visitors will be introduced to more than 1,000 commercial goats – a closed herd of hybrids British Saanens, British Toggenbergs and Alpines.

Visitors to the event on Monday, May 18, from 2pm to 5pm, will also get the chance to see the kid shed, rearing pen, billy shed, maternity ward, and milking yard and parlour in action.

The charity’s Ripon Fundraising Group will provide afternoon teas and a host of goat products will be available for people to buy and try, such as milk, butter, ice cream, cheese and meat.

Visitors will be asked to dip their clean wellies or walking shoes in a disinfected padded foot dip on arrival.

A spokeswoman for the group said it was hoped the event would raise £1,500 for the charity.

She said: “This is the first time we’ve staged a goat walk and we’re delighted Risaw Farm has agreed to support us by inviting people to see the working farm in action.”
