YOUNGSTERS with a taste for history are being given the chance to get involved in the world of museums.

A new monthly young volunteers club is starting at Ripon Museums this month for young people aged between 10 and 18.

Youngsters will get the chance to work behind the scenes at the Workhouse Museum, the Police and Prison Museum and the Courthouse Museum.

“We have had a lot of interest from young people who would like to help out in our museums which gave us the original idea for starting this new club,” said volunteers coordinator Wendy Hunwick Brown.

“We hope it will develop and grow around the interests and ideas of the people involved as well as benefitting the museums.

“It is a chance to get involved with living history, help to plan and take part in museum events, learn new arts and crafts and much more.”

Young people are invited to find out more at the first club session on January 24 at the Workhouse Museum which runs from 9.30am to 11.30am. Parents are also encouraged to attend this session.
