THE EFFECT of the First World War on the landscape and communities of a picturesque rural area will take place next month.

The Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) will be holding its annual Heritage Forum on Friday, October 10 at Fearby and Healey Village Hall.

During the morning, there will be talks by leading experts.

Roger Thomas, from English Heritage, will talk about the First World War archaeological sites and Professor Alison Fell, from the University of Leeds, will talk about women and war in Yorkshire.

Their talks will be followed by a series of presentations on local First World War projects.

The afternoon workshops sessions will give participants a chance to visit sites of interest, or take part in an indoor session researching their First World War family history.

Tickets priced at £5, which includes a buffet lunch and refreshments. The full programme is available on the AONB website at nidderdaleaonb.org.uk/Pages/Events.aspx

You can book by contacting the AONB office on 01423-712950 or emailing aonbevents@harrogate.gov.uk
