PERSONNEL from RAF Leeming are set to parade through Ripon to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

The annual event remembers the efforts of Royal Air Force pilots of fighter command who took on German attacks directed at RAF airfields in 1940.

The parade on Sunday (September 14) will form up in the Spa Gardens at 10.30am for a small service on Sunday morning, before marching through to the Market Square at 11am where the salute will be taken by the Mayor of Ripon, Councillor Mick Stanley and RAF Leeming Station Commander, Group Captain Steve Reeves.

During the salute, there will be a flypast by two Hawk jets from 100 Sqn, based at RAF Leeming. The parade will then be followed by a service at 11.15am in Ripon Cathedral, where the squadron's standard is laid up.
