AN exhibition of contemporary sculpture featuring the work of a number of well-known artists has opened at Newby Hall, near Ripon.

Over the last 14 years the venue has built up a reputation for the diversity and popularity of its Contemporary Sculpture Park.

This year it showcases works from 25 well known and emerging artists, with a total of 34 figurative and abstract sculptures in bronze, glass, metal, marble and wood.

Among the well-known sculptors are Lucy Kinsella, Anthony Turner, Michael Lyons, Jane Freud and David Williams-Ellis.

Curated by Newby Hall’s owner Lucinda Compton and staged in an atmospheric woodland setting, this year’s show runs to September 28 and is sponsored by property consultants Carter Jonas.

The firm’s North Yorkshire-based chief executive, Mark Granger, said: “The Comptons have long been attracting renowned sculptors from all over the country.

“The gardens at Newby Hall offer the most sensational backdrop for the artists to showcase their work and we are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s exhibition.”

All the sculptures featured in the exhibition are for sale directly from Newby Hall.
