Richmond's now privately run Tourist Information Centre has joined Welcome To Yorkshire, the award winning Destination Management Organization established in 2009 to promote the county's vistor economy.

A launch event was held today to promote the Tourist Information Centre, its management and team of dedicated volunteers. Supporting the launch from Welcome To Yorkshire were David Shields, Area Director, North Yorkshire together with colleagues Rachel Smith and Carol Cheetham. The Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Oliver Blease, and Mayoress Valerie Blease also attended.

Also present were Andy Russell and Carolyn Grant whose company Moonburst runs the Richmond On-Line internet forum and provides website design and hosting facilities to many local businesses and other organizations The TIC was taken over in August by Barrie Proctor following the decision by Richmondshire District Council to close it. All the volunteer staff under the previous management have continued to support the operation; their numbers have recently increased by two.

Richmond TIC is open every day from 9:30am until 5:00pm. It offers a wide range of local knowledge and expertise from friendly staff, together with a large selection of guidebooks, maps and quality locally produced souvenir items. Contact them on 01748 828742.
