A CHOIR has dedicated its monthly choral evensong to the memory of one of its choristers who died earler this month.

The choir of St. Mary’s parish church ijn Richmond sang special music to commemorate Jackie Robinson, who died aged 74 after an 18-month fight with pancreatic cancer..

“She was a valued choir member for 20 years and much loved by the other choristers,” said organist and choirmaster, Colin Hicks.

Members of the church choir also sang at her funeral at St Mary’s, together with voices from the HARP Singers, a Leyburn-based secular choir of which she was a founder-member.

Mrs Robinson, a retired teacher who lived in Crakehall, had taught at Bedale School and at the Allertonshire School in Northallerton.

Previously. she was a teacher in Leeds where she sang with a top-notch chamber choir, the West Riding Singers.

She leaves a husband, Ralph, two sons, a step-daughter and two grandchhildren.
