MUM-of-four Carole Budge is keeping the memory of her step-dad alive by running in this year's London Marathon.

Carole, from Aldbrough St John, near Richmond, will be joined in the gruelling effort by her 31-year-old son Matthew.

And together they will be raising funds for the charity Bowel & Cancer Research - to help combat the disease that claimed her step-dad Alan Wynn-Williams last October at the age of 74.

“When someone is ill and battling something like bowel cancer, it’s important to recognise how much fundraising matters,” said Carole.

“It’s easy to turn your back on the fundraising part and just get on with the running. But I felt that there has to be a cure and treatment for bowel cancer one day and it won’t happen unless we support medical research."

She added:“He knew we were going to do the marathon as a tribute to him and was very pleased. He was a lovely man.”

Cheering them along on April 22 will be a host of friends and family including Carole’s other three children and her husband Ian who runs a building company.

To swell their fundraising total, Carole has just completed a 500km cycling challenge in Myanmar.

The entire Budge family is also holding a fundraising barbecue on April 7 in the garden. It will include musical interludes from friends, an auction, raffle and bar.
