THE grateful family of a girl who was airlifted to hospital after being injured in a playground fall have raised almost £4,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Ellie Peacock, now 10, was airlifted to James Cook Hospital after breaking her femur in a fall at Askrigg Primary School nearly two years ago.

Her mother Angela with husband James held a Big Breakfast morning at their Corn Mill Tearooms in Bainbridge for the life-saving charity this weekend.

Family and friends served full-English breakfasts for more than four hours to those who turned up.

The team got through at least 400 sausages, 480 rashers of bacon, 240 eggs, 150 bread rolls, 80 baguettes, and eight loaves of bread.

Produce used for the event held at the family-run tearoom was donated from local suppliers.

There were also 85 raffle prizes provided by local residents and businesses, which helped push the total raised to more than £3,800.

Mrs Peacock said: “This amount of money would never have been possible if we hadn’t had everything donated.

“People have been incredibly generous and we still have money promised or coming in.

“We don’t have a lot of space in the tearoom but the customers and staff were amazing.”

Since her injury, Ellie has donated unwanted toys to raise money for the rapid response emergency charity and her school held a collection after a recent production.

She held a sale of old toys and books with her brother James before the breakfast event.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves five million people across Yorkshire and carries out over 1,300 missions every year.

It needs to raise £12,000 every day to keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances in the air and maintained – the equivalent to £4.4m each year.

“We really wanted to give something back, to say thank you to this amazing charity,” added Mrs Peacock.

“The air ambulance is a much needed and valued service, especially in rural areas like ours.

"Ellie got to hospital in less than 15 minutes whereas it would have taken over an hour by car.”
