A PRETTY village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales is about to become a gateway to the universe.

Powerful telescopes will point to the sky above the village hall at West Burton on March 10 to spy celestial delights like distant galaxies and colourful nebula.

Astronomer Richard Darn said: “The Yorkshire Dales is one of England's darkest areas. Away from light pollution the sky can seemed filled with stars.

"We’ll be doing a beginners talk to start off the event and hand around rocks from outer space over four billion years old. We'll also offer lots of tips on how to get started in astronomy and take simple pictures of the night sky."

The cost is £9.50 adults and £6 children. Bring binoculars and telescopes if you have them. The event starts at 7pm.
