STAFF, volunteers and loyal visitors celebrated the 10th anniversary of a historic riverside railway building.

The Station, in Richmond, marked its 10th anniversary by exploring the past with a Victorian-themed family event on the platform.

It featured performances from storyteller Irene Lofthouse, illusionist Steel Johnson, puppeteer Martin Thorpe and Richmond Operatic Society, who performed some numbers from their upcoming production of Scrooge.

Jemma Holliday, communications coordinator, said: “We had a fantastic day celebrating our tenth birthday.

“We had lots of families who stayed all day and soaked up the atmosphere, enjoying our building and the variety of businesses here.

“It was lovely to see smiles on the faces of the families enjoying the activities and performances – the staff very much enjoyed them too.”

Visitors had the opportunity to watch a free screening of Brief Encounter at The Station cinema, and Richmondshire Museum allowed visitors to handle Victorian artefacts.

Children could dress up in Victorian clothes, have a photo taken in front of a specially commissioned backdrop and take part in historic crafts and games.

Jean Slater, from Stockton, took home an original Sue Dewhurst painting of The Station after winning the Grand Raffle.

The Station’s design a birthday cake competition winner was also announced, with the successful student winning book tokens for her school.
