AN Autumn Fine Art Sale is the pinnacle of the auction calendar at one of the leading regional auction houses in the country.
Tennants Auctioneers, in Leyburn, is showcasing an iconic Martin Brothers’ stoneware bird jar which leads the 20th century design section of the sale.
The grotesque caricature, modelled on a Sergeant Major, is estimated at £20,000-30,000.
Another notable item is Sailing Boat – a small pencil and mixed media painting by Alfred Wallis (1855-1942) with an estimate of £10,000-15,000.
He was a semi-literate retired fisherman living in poverty in St Ives, and painted on whatever scraps of wood, card or packaging he could find.
The present lot is painted on brown card.
A full catalogue will be available online leading up to the sale.
