RUNNERS took to the streets of a historic market town to compete in a picturesque annual race.

On Sunday, the Swaledale Runners Richmond Castle 10K attracted almost 400 entrants who were raring to defeat the testing course.

The scenic route takes competitors past the River Swale, waterfalls and finishes at the historic Richmond Castle.

Mayor of Richmond Stuart Parsons was on hand to start the race and congratulate the finishers.

Prizes were awarded to the first five men and women as well as the winners of the ten different age categories.

Helen Ingis, Swaledale Runners social secretary, said: “The feedback has been brilliant from the runners and it helped that the weather was so good.

“I want to thank the community for all of their support. We hope we can have the same success in the future.”

The main sponsor for the race was Start Fitness Darlington and Richmond Town Council helped with the funding.

Next year organisers hope to hold the race on the same weekend as Richmond Ale Festival which takes place at Richmondshire Cricket Club this weekend.
