MEMORABILIA belonging to one of the footballing legends is coming under the hammer in the Yorkshire Dales.

Peter Lorimer is best known for playing for Scotland and for Leeds United, where he still holds the club records for being the youngest ever player and the record goal scorer.

He made his debut for Leeds aged 15 in September 1962, and came to regular prominence in the club in the 1965/66 season.

Known for his frequent and often spectacular goal scoring, he is generally regarded as having one of the hardest shots in football – and earned many nicknames such as Hot Shot and Thunderboots.

A collection of his memorabilia will be sold at Tennants of Leyburn on November 24 and is now on display in the salerooms.

It comprises four Scottish Football Association caps, and trophies and medals for the UEFA Cup, the European Cup, the Football Association Challenge Cup and the Football League Division 1 Championship.

Tennants specialist Kegan Harrison said: "It is a huge privilege to handle this unique collection from a boyhood hero and true footballing legend. It represents a golden era of football in the late 60s and early 70s."
