A HOSPICE care charity has opened its sixth shop in the area it serves.

Herriot Hospice Homecare has opened its first ever shop in Richmond, an area where it provides ‘a hospice without walls’ service to people with terminal illness.

The shop, which is situated at 3 Finkle Street, was officially opened by The Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Stuart Parsons.

He said: “The Herriot Hospice Homecare shop is welcome because all the money raised will be put to meaningful use in the local community.”

Rosie Page, Herriot Hospice Homecare patron, said: “It costs Herriot almost £1million each year to support local families, with services which includes end of life care, bereavement support, befriending, respite support and driving services.

“Our shops account for a third of this income so to be able to open our sixth shop, and our first-ever in Richmond, is fantastic.

“The Finkle Street store is in a busy location, and with our commitment to selling high quality goods – including designer fashion brands and unique homewares - we hope it will be as popular with the local community as our shops in Masham, Northallerton, Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk.”

Caroline Laskey, manager of the Richmond shop, said: “Goods are flying off the shelves, and shoppers tell us they love the boutique feel as well as the fact that the money they spend makes a real difference here in Richmondshire.”

Volunteers for all six stores are always welcome and anyone interested in helping, even for a few hours, can call 01609-777413.
