A VAN thief attempted to sell two expensive violins that were in the back of the vehicle.
The white Ford Transit van, which was stolen in Richmond, had various items of gardening equipment inside, along with the two valuable violins.
The van, registration HV61 FTT, was stolen from the Holly Hill pub car park between 8am on Monday, August 27 and 7.30am on Tuesday, August 28.
On Wednesday, August 30, a man entered JG Williams music store on Blackwell Gate, Darlington, where he tried to sell the violins.
The sale was refused but it is believed he may still have the instruments.
A CCTV image of the man has been released and anybody with information should contact 101.
