TWO schoolgirls will be flying the flag for North Yorkshire after being selected to compete against the best young athletes in the country.

Emma Hardy, 17, of Huby has been selected to be part of the Rugby 7s squad at the 2017 School Games National Finals, while 15-year-old Lily MacLeod from Richmond is part of the Swimming squad.

The School Games are a multi-sport event for the UK’s most talented school-age athletes and will take place at Loughborough University from August 31 to September 3.

Emma, at Bishop Burton College in Beverley will compete for the England North squad at the event and already has an impressive record of success, having been selected for the England U18 Talent Development Group.

Lily, a Richmond School pupil, won five medals in the 2016 swimming competition the IDM Berlin.

The teenagers will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of some illustrious previous School Games athletes including Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds and Olympic champion Adam Peaty.
