A HOSPITAL’S new look radiology department will be unveiled this week following a major fundraising campaign.

The Friends of Richmond Friary Community Hospital in North Yorkshire raised £170,000 for the refurbishment, which included the installation of a new digital radiography system to replace dated X-ray equipment.

The department reopened to patients this week, and an official unveiling ceremony will take place on Friday when Margaret Clayson, chairman of the Friends, and other fundraisers and trustees will gather to celebrate.

Ms Clayson said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the radiology team at The Friary with this new, modern equipment for the benefit of local patients who won’t have to face a longer journey for X-rays thanks to this upgrade.”

Fiona Harker, radiology manager, said the new equipment would be of particular importance to older people who are often referred by GPs or outpatient clinics.

The Friary is part of the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
