PUPILS are hoping to sample their own taste of fame next week when their latest stage production opens to the public.

For youngsters at Saint Francis Xavier School, Richmond, are busy with final rehearsals for their production of Fame the Musical.

Directed by former student Claire Smith, it features a cast of 30 from all year groups and runs from July 12-14 starting at 7pm.

“I’m really proud of what the pupils have achieved," said Miss Smith. "We started rehearsals in January and the children have worked so hard to put the show together.

"They have all shown amazing dedication, fitting practice in around their studies and exams.”

The musical features a ten-piece professional band led by musical director and the school's head of music Christopher Rodaway, whilst fellow teachers Kate Clements and Gemma Gardner have taken responsibility for choreography.

The show is based on the TV series and feature film, which tells the story of aspiring performers at the New York High School of Performing Arts.

Tickets are available from the school's reception and are priced adults £7 and under 16's £4. For details call the box office on 01748 823414 or e-mail communications@sfxschool.org.uk
