A GRADUATE who wanted to combine a desire for travel with helping others has raised more than £2,000 for a charity trip to Kenya.
Harry Jarvis, 21, of Redmire is packing his bags for a three-month stint working with rural communities in Kenya as part of the government’s Volunteer Overseas initiative.
Mr Jarvis, who graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in September, is jetting off on April 22 and wanted to thank his local community for helping him raise enough funds to join the project.
He had a target of £1,500 but managed to make £2,030 through a variety of initiatives including living on £1 a day for a week, running a half-marathon and holding a quiz night at the Bolton Arms pub in Redmire where he works.
Mr Jarvis said: “The villagers of Castle Bolton and Redmire have been spot on. I asked for support and they have just been so generous.
“People I don’t even know have been coming up to me and donating £20 or £30, everyone has been so generous and I would like to thank them tremendously.”
