A GROUP of business and tourism bosses that are passionate about Richmond and all it has to offer is appealing to the whole town to pool resources to promote its attractions all the year round..

The group is working to improve what the town already has to offer both residents and visitors, in an initiative called Explore the Magic of Richmond and a launch event will be held at the Georgian Theatre Royal on April 6 at 2pm.

Philip Knowles, one of the organisers, said: “We will be explaining the concept and offering free workshops to the businesses and attractions to help them to be part of the programme.

“To give an even greater focus, as part of this initiative, the town is aiming to enter the Great British High Street awards later this year.”

Mr Knowles said the group hoped businesses, attractions and residents would get involved and also include a link on their individual websites to a page which would give information about everything there is to do in the town.

He added: “For too long Richmond has been ‘Britain’s best kept secret’ – it has an incredible range of attractions but has not always been the best at communicating this to both visitors and residents.

“The reasons for this are many and varied but, often, it is thought that the needs of both groups are incompatible. This is not true.

“Both residents and visitors need high quality shops and attractions providing a varied mix of goods and services all year round.

“Visitors don’t just come in summer.”
