CHILDREN at schools across North Yorkshire received a cash boost to bolster their bookshelves.
Homebuilder Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire surprised pupils at eight schools across the region, including Colburn and Skelton primary schools, with a £100 contribution towards new books.
The developer made the donation in support of the annual World Book Day - an initiative that aims to encourage more children to enjoy reading and celebrate stories of all genres.
Debbie Whittingham, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, said: “World Book Day is a fantastic opportunity to introduce pupils to this invaluable pastime.
“We are delighted to be able help the next generation to practice essential skills that will last them a lifetime and discover of the joys of reading.”
World Book Day, which was held on Thursday, celebrated its 20th birthday this year.
It is marked in schools across the country with many youngsters dressing up as book characters.
