A YOUNG author has revealed plans to run a literary festival in a Dales town this summer.

Hannah Russell, author of the Little Alf series, came up with the idea for a Leyburn Book Festival two years ago and has now put her plans into action.

She said: "We have several great events during the year here in Leyburn and I felt there was room for another.

“As an author I thought a book festival would be a good idea as there are many interesting and talented writers based here in the Dales.”

Ms Russell, 20, who wrote the first Little Alf series of books when she was a teenager, has organised the festival on Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5. The line-up will include Yorkshire shepherdess Amanda Owen, Swaledale crime writer Susan Parry, and Bronte author Juliet Barker.

On the Saturday it is children and young writers’ day featuring competitions for children aged four to nine, and 10 to 18.

Ms Russell said: “I’m really excited about our book festival it will really good to celebrate the wealth of literary talent here in the Yorkshire Dales.”
