AN EVENT to raise cash in memory of a couple who were active fundraisers for Cancer Research UK has netted more than £2,000.
The annual gathering was started seven years ago by David Barker and Graham Clark when Mr Barker was diagnosed with cancer. Since his death in 2014, Mr Clark has continued to organise the function along with Mr Barker’s son John, and Rob Coates.
Mr Clark said: “For the last two years we have held the event at the Black Bull in Moulton, and previous to that it was at the Arden Arms in North Cowton.
“We raised just over £2,000 from the event, which includes a meal and three drinks, and is basically a gathering of people from the local farming and shooting community, and others who knew David.
“Sadly, David’s wife Sam also died of cancer in February last year, so we want to keep the legacy going. We have raised around £15,000 over the years and this year we have split the cash between Cancer Research UK, and Herriot Hospice Homecare, as they cared for Sam when she was ill.”
