THE MAKERS of one of Yorkshire’s most iconic cheeses are holding an array of family activities this half term.

The Wensleydale Creamery, based in Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales, is welcoming families to its Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience at its visitor centre this month.

The interactive experience takes visitors on a journey through the art of cheese-making, including the opportunity to watch Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese being handcrafted from the viewing gallery.

There will be hands-on games and activities such as driving the children’s milk tanker and learning all about how cows make milk.

New for this February, the viewing gallery has been developed to incorporate more information and touch screens showing behind the scenes footage of the cheese-making process. Visitors can discover how cranberries get into Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, and how blue cheese is made, as well as watch cheese-making demonstrations.

The attraction also includes a gift shop with more than 20 different handmade, award-winning cheeses and a coffee shop.
