TWO schools have joined forces in an imaginative project to get children talking and writing together through the book character Flat Stanley.

Pupils at Aiskew Leeming Bar and Burneston Primary Schools have made pen pals of each other and sent their own ‘flat friends’ to spend time in the partner school, just as Stanley does in the book.

Stanley Lambchop, in the books by Jeff Brown, was flattened by a large bulletin board above his bed. He survives, and makes the best of his altered state by visiting friends by being mailed in an envelope.

After looking after the Flat Stanleys for a week and keeping a diary the children got together for a writing workshop.

Through art and drama, the children planned a new adventure for their characters, and will result in a joint book of stories.
