YOUNGSTERS at a Richmondshire primary school are celebrating after fending off 30 other teams in the district to be crowned winners of a football tournament.
Bolton-on-Swale St Mary’s CE Primary School’s year five and year six boys team
took part in the Richmondshire Primary Schools football tournament last term, after beating 12 schools in the Swaledale area tournament.
In the area finals, held at Wensleydale School, the boys met the other eight areas winning football teams to compete for the honour to take part in the Richmondshire at the North Yorkshire games in summer 2017.
After five games Bolton on Swale won four, only losing one match to Bedale Primary School. They met Bedale again in the final, which they went on to win.
Headteacher Nicola Dobson said: “We are especially proud that as a smaller primary school we have been able to achieve such sporting excellence, competing against schools twice or three times larger than us.”
