AN ARTIST who specialises in miniatures based largely on plants and flowers has been awarded a prestigious prize for her skilled and detailed paintings.

Kate Green, from Richmond, is a full member of the Society of Botanical Artists and of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, and takes part in annual exhibitions for each society at the Mall Galleries, London.

Mrs Green, who has only been a full member of the royal society for two years, said she was thrilled to have been told she has been awarded the Gold Bowl Memorial Award Honourable Mention for artists who has an exceptional piece of miniature art.

Her new painting, Cherries and Lace, is part of her most recent collection of six miniature paintings which form part of the exhibition in the Mall Galleries until October 22, and was the piece that caught the eye of judges.

She said: “My work is still the same as it has always been, really, often inspired by nature as I enjoy my garden so much.

“Perhaps I have become even more detailed because it is the detail that gives me the buzz. If I manage to get two or three details to be really intricate then it brings it alive – but if there is too much detail it can be a bit tiring for the eye.”

She added: I’m thrilled to have received the award; the work of the society is so fantastic so I’m up against a lot of competition.”
