A NURSING home is set to revitalise its gardens of the dementia care facility following a donation of more than £2,000 from the son of a former resident.
Mike Metcalfe, 55, from Newby Wiske, took on a challenge to cycle up and down the notoriously steep Rosedale Chimney in the North York Moors to the equivalent of the height of Everest.
The gruelling 30 hour challenge raised more than £5,000, which was split between the Alzheimer’s Society and Rosedale Care Home in Catterick Garrison, with the home receiving £2,010. Mr Metcalfe's father John, who was living with dementia, sadly passed away the week after the challenge and the money raised will go towards a renovation of the dementia gardens, expanding the seating and adding dementia-friendly features, such as a potting shed and raised flower beds.
