A NEW scouting group for Upper Wensleydale has attracted a large number of new recruits.
Held at Hawes in the former National Schoolhouse building of the Nash, the new group was in response to demand for a cub pack and beaver colony for the area.
An open evening held previously attracted 15 boys and girls, however at the launch evening 25 young people arrived ready to enrol for the group led by Laura Power.
Youngsters were able to take part in several team games and a number of activities specially laid on for the evening.
Mum of twins Matt and Ted Alderson, Sue Hugill, said the new group was fantastic.
She said: “I think it is just what our kids need and we appreciate all the helpers do.”
District Commissioner for Richmondshire Scouts Richard Good thought the evening was a complete success. He said: “I am extremely pleased with the number of young people here tonight. “Unfortunately at this stage we cannot accept any more but if anyone is interested in helping in scouting, they can get in touch and to add to our team of helpers across Richmondshire.”
