TWO sports presenters living with Parkinson’s are on their way to completing a 200 mile walk of the Coast to Coast.

Darts presenter Dave Clark and F1 producer Martin Turner, both from Sky Sports, arrived in Richmond on Monday afternoon in good spirits, having been supported on their journey by several sporting stars and colleagues from the network.

Mr Clark, who was diagnosed in 2011 when he was 44, said he had been to Robin Hood’s Bay with his father, also diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 44, as a child and had wondered why people were running into the sea.

“I wanted to raise funds for Parkinson’s so it was that memory that made me want to do the walk.”

Friend and colleague Mr Turner said he was asked to take part and jumped at the chance.

He said: “I did it because I love Dave. I was diagnosed two years ago and it was something we both wanted to do while we still can.”

Mr Clark and Mr Turner have been joined along the route on various days by a whole host of friends including Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling, chief executive of the Professional Dart's Corporation Matt Porter, sports presenter Gabriele Marcotti and rugby stars Paul Wallace and Dewi Morris.

Mr Clark has already beaten his original fundraising target of £20,000, which he increased to £30,000, and then £40,000.

He said: “Sky Sport has offered to match fund up to £50,000, so I’m hopeful we can raise about £100,000.

“That will go straight into much-needed research. I’m on the same drugs my dad was on 20 years ago. I was told Parkinson’s was not hereditary so when I was diagnosed it did come as a massive shock.”
