A VOLUNTARY action group is appealing for drivers to help across its transport services in Richmondshire.

Richmondshire Community and Voluntary Action (RCVA) has brought together local community transport organisations to join forces - and the Little White Bus based in Hawes, Reeth & District Community Transport, Bedale Mini-Bus, St John’s Community Centre, Catterick and RCVA’s Community Car Scheme all need volunteers.

"Community transport plays an increasingly vital role in connecting people to healthcare, social activities, shopping and leisure and thanks to a successful Awards4All grant we have been able to produce some shared marketing materials to help recruit more volunteers across the district” said John Atkins, RCVA development officer.

Judith Bromfield, chief officer of RCVA, is delighted with a video that gives an insight into how rewarding and enjoyable a volunteer driver role can be.

Cllr Jimmy Wilson-Petch from Richmondshire District Council said: “People living in rural and isolated areas benefit enormously from a local community transport service and we are also hoping to extend the service into the North Richmondshire area where an initial survey has proved that there is a need. We have several volunteers already but we need more to make a true success of this proposed service."
