GREAT-grandparents John and Jean have celebrated a major milestone in their marriage – 60 years of wedded bliss.

The couple, aged 80 and 79 respectively, enjoyed a diamond wedding anniversary at their home in Richmond, surrounded by family and friends.

John, originally from Portland Bill in Dorset, and Jean, from Richmond, met when they were teenagers and John was an apprentice jockey in the town.

He later joined the military and originally served with the Royal Engineers before joining the Physical Training Corps, serving with them for 24 years.

During his time with the Corps he represented England and Great Britain in international trampoline competitions and after leaving the Army worked in education welfare for 22 years.

After raising their four children Jean worked as head cook at Richmond’s Fleece Hotel for many years and then worked at the own’s police station until she retired.

The couple now have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren - with their newest great-grandson, arriving just a few days ago.
