A FUN pony and dog show which aims to encourage youngsters to enjoy competing with their pets will take place next weekend.

Organisers Claudia Townrow and Evelyn Armstrong wanted to take their young children to a summer show which would allow them to compete with their beloved ponies – but at a level which kept it fun and encouraging.

The show will take place at Catterick Garrison Saddle Club on Sunday, July 17, with pony events suitable for children aged 12 and under.

Mrs Townrow said: “As a military wife, I wanted to raise funds for ABF The Soldiers' Charity and my friend Evelyn was keen to put on a show aimed at children that was low key and fun so we combined the two.

“Catterick Garrison Saddle Club who have let us use the facilities free of charge and every penny raised is going to ABF The Soldiers' Charity.

“There are three rings, two for ponies with classes to suit all children aged 12 and under and a dog show, again for young handlers with classes such as waggiest tail, best trick and golden oldie.”

She said all children would get a rosette and bag of sweets, while winners of the class would receive a larger prize.

Pony classes start at 10am, a dog demonstration is at 11am and dog classes start at noon. For information on the chosen charity visit http://www.soldierscharity.org.
