AN EVENT to support and raise awareness of the work of emergency services in Richmondshire will take place next month.

Organised by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, the open day started around six years ago to highlight the work of the service – but it has now grown to include all local services including police, hazardous area response team, bomb disposal and air ambulance.

This year’s open day will take place on Saturday, July 23 from 10am until 3pm, at Richmond School car park.

Organiser Steven Rogers said last year’s event attracted hundreds of people, and he hopes this year will be even more successful.

He said: “From each of the organisations involved there will be a large selection of people, vehicles and equipment to see and try.

“There will be demonstrations from the fire service’s car crash extrication to the police dog demonstration and the bomb disposal team.

“Members of the public can get all the safety advice from the various agencies who will also have an array of free gifts.”

There will also be a bouncy castle, vintage engines, and the Fire Fighters Charity will be there to raise cash for serving and retired firefighters.
