CYCLING enthusiasts have raised more than £3,000 for charity WaterAid after saddling up to ride around the Yorkshire Dales.

More than 80 riders took part in the 50 mile and 80 mile circular routes, which took cyclists through Grassington, Stainforth, Malham and Appletreewick, with the longer route extending to Ingleton in the north.

The group raised £3,300 as part of Kelda Sportive, organised by Yorkshire Water, on Saturday, May 14.

Stephen Nutter, organiser of the cycling challenge, said: “Cycling in the Yorkshire Dales is as popular as it has ever been and this was the third year of the Kelda Sportive, which is going from strength to strength.

“We have raised more than we achieved last year and we’d like to thank all the riders for taking part in what was a great sporting day.”

Over the next few years, Kelda and Yorkshire Water aim to raise £1m for WaterAid to help bring clean water to 130,000 people in Ethiopia.

Sponsors of this year’s event included Squire Patton Boggs, Stonebury, WB Power Services, Northgate & Inverter Drive Systems.
