A CYCLIST from North Yorkshire has raised thousands for a homeless charity by cycling 300 miles to Paris.
Lewis Veakins, 23, a former Ripon Grammar School pupil, has just completed a four-day cycle ride to the French capital from London, to raise money for a homeless charity he is involved with.
Mr Veakins, who is currently working in a law firm and whose father, Sean Veakins, is a partner at Place Blair and Hatch solicitors in Northallerton, completed the trip with a university friend, Alex Ferguson.
The two completed the cycle unaided, stopping in hostels on the way.
Lewis Veakins, who grew up in South Otterington said: “We both raised over £2,000 for the Liverpool Whitechapel Centre, a homeless shelter which I fundraised for as Vice President and co-founder of Liverpool University’s Help the Homeless Society.”
His grandmother, Yvonne Veatkins said: “They completed it by cycling about 100 miles and then stopping and finding somewhere to stay.
“They completed it without any support on the way because the sponsors wanted a percentage of the proceeds and they wanted all the money to go to the charity.”
