YOUNGSTERS learning about animal habitats have taken part in a tree planting project thanks to the A1 Leeming to Barton Improvement team.
Children at the Federation of Middleton Tyas and Eppleby Forcett CE Primary Schools have been planting trees in collaboration with the A1 improvement team, and learning about how the contractors look after different habitats.
Class teacher Tom Judd said: “Having worked with the A1 Leeming to Barton (A1L2B) team in the past on a Roman archaeology project, I knew they would be supportive of another.
"The work they are doing currently directly linked with what I had to teach in science. By inviting them in, it would give the children a greater understanding from a real, local perspective.”
Steve Gilder, A1L2B environmental advisor, visited the school to talk about the project and how the whole site is affected by local wildlife and their habitats.
Mr Gilder set a challenge for the group of eight to 10-year-olds to design posters to encourage positive ways to look after the environment - and the prize for the whole class was a donation of trees for the school field.
