YOUNG swim stars have been praised for their success at a recent primary school gala.

Pupils from the Federation of Eppleby Forcett and Middleton Tyas Church of England Primary School took part in the annual Richmondshire Primary Schools Swimming Gala on Wednesday, April 13 at Richmond Swimming Pool.

Deputy headteacher Debbie McLean said she was very proud of the eight key stage two pupils, who each took home at least a silver medal.

She said: “The children all have swimming lessons though school but many do outside of school as well.

“They won seven gold medals and three silvers, which is a remarkable achievement. They worked so well together on the two team events – we are so proud of them all.

“They worked seamlessly as a team in the relay and showed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the event.”

The children were awarded with medals and a shield to display in school for the coming year.

The children competed in both individual events and a team freestyle and medley relay.

Seth Wilkinson took first in 25m boys freestyle; Carys Meaney was first in 25m girls freestyle; James Montgomery was second in 25m boys breaststroke; Nicole Lambert was second in 25m girls breastroke; Finley Sweeton came first in 25m boys backstroke; Mae Johnson was second in 25m girls backstroke; Darrah Meaney came first in 25m boys butterfly; and Charlotte Watson came first in 25m girls butterfly.

A mixed team took first place in a freestyle relay and a medley relay.
