A WOMAN whose house lies on the Coast to Coast route has tackled the 190-mile walk to raise cash for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Elaine Stones, from Marrick in Swaledale, said she wanted to raise cash for the air ambulance after it came to the rescue of a farmer in the village who fell from a stack of straw.

She said: “He cracked his head open so if it was not for the air ambulance he might not have survived – it really is a life saver.”

Mrs Stones successfully completed a sponsored walk of the Coast to Coast to raise more than £600 – and she netted a total of £1,000, with the remainder from cream teas and a domino and whist drive in Marrick Village Institute.

Mrs Stones friends Pauline Cordner and Hilda Busby helped with the fundraising events, and they said they wanted to thank everyone who donated, sponsored or contributed to the effort.

Mrs Stones said: “I wanted to give something back to the air ambulance as you never know when you or someone you know might need it.

“People know I’m not a walker so the Coast to Coast was a real achievement.”
